Ontario Death Confirmed in Listeriosis Outbreak

The Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed that one person in Ontario has died from the strain of listeriosis (listeria) that may be related to a bacteria outbreak at a Toronto Maple Leaf Foods plant. To see the full story click here

Initial symptoms of listeriosis include nausea, vomiting, cramps, diarrhea, headache, constipation and persistent fever.

On May 8, 2008, the OBIA (Ontario Brain Injury Association) in association with BIST (the Brain Injury Society of Toronto) held its Annual Mix & Mingle. Neinstein & Associates attended and sponsored the event which helped to raise over $30,000 for the two organizations.

Over the past 4 years, OBIA and BIST have celebrated many successes. The success of both organizations are based on the belief that working together, not only with each other but with the ABI community, is the most effective way to enhance the lives of Ontarians living with the effects of Brain Injury.

Mediation is normally a day-long process, where the parties and their lawyers get together with a neutral third party chosen by both sides (the mediator), and try to settle the dispute before it gets to trial. Back in an entry titled Social Assistance and ODSP Recipients dated, Wednesday, February 20, 2008 we discussed deduction in the context of plaintiff injury compensation. The case of Mule v. The Director of the Ontario Disability Support Program of The Ministry of Community and Social Services, released in November 2007 is good news for injured Plaintiffs who receive social assistance.

Neinstein & Associates LLP is representing the students of Corneilus Kersten, a teacher at Shelter Bay Public School in Mississauga, Ontario.

Corneilus Kersten, a teacher at Shelter Bay Public School, is alleged to have sexually assaulted students in his elementary school classroom.  Kersten has recently been charged with indecent assault on a male and gross indecency stemming from incidents involving grade school children going back to 1978.  He was released on a promise to appear and is set to appear in Court again on April 7, 2008 regarding those charges.
